“and in fact with our blessing for so long it seems like normal.”

I have never given my blessing, as a matter of fact, the moment Reagan spoke the words “Trickle down effect”, I knew we were fu*ked. If there was one thing I have learned by this time is that the rich NEVER trickle down anything…they just want more. And now we are seeing the long-term effects of their corruption and greed, and it’s going to get worse.
One of the most effective piece of propaganda they have is the ability to avoid the real issues and keep us separated with arguments on subjects that do not matter and the MSM has been a contributing factor to this… But it wasn’t always this way and actually started long before Reagan.

Long before the Internet there was a way the citizens communicated with each other, shared ideas, and voiced opinions about politics that the monopolized newspapers would not…it was called the short wave radio. During WWI many citizen solders used this tool and were trained to build and maintain them, after the war they came back with this knowledge and used it. They built and sold radios just like the beginning of the computer revolution. The powers that be at the time could not have this so they passed legislation giving the best airwaves to their rich corporate friends that eventually became ABC, CBS, and NBC. Made it illegal for the public to use these airwaves, the citizen voice was squashed and the rest is history.
They had a lock on all major advertising making them ridiculously rich, also giving them the power to elect our officials by ignoring anyone that they did not see fit…or voiced a different opinion than their corporate propaganda.
Hence, we will never see politicians like Andrew Jackson who fought the big bankers almost to destruction, or Abraham Lincoln, a poor working class politician who fought the banks and printed his own currency. John F. Kennedy started to print his own currency called the silver certificate…makes you wonder.
The Federal Reserve is a privately owned bank that controls our currency much like the airwaves are controlled by the networks.

…you will see the same thing happen to the Internet if you let them.

Well written, you approached a sad situation with just the right touch of sarcasm and humor… My question is, why do these types always go after the wrong people. The fact that he went after employees of this channel proves that he watches too much TV and is misinformed. Otherwise he would have went after the corporate communications lobbyists who have lobbied (bribed) their way to corporate monopoly’s that control the information we receive and spread lies and propaganda… or the fossil fuel lobbyists who have pushed to retard any advancements with renewable energy unless they can control it, since he was a supposed environmentalist. Sad to say I think there will be more of these situations because of the high unemployment.

Alcohol differs from other drugs in that it is much more intoxicating, and it is legal.

Because it is much more intoxicating, and people will often due stupid and destructive things when drunk, its much more of a threat to good social order than other drugs. But the failure of the state to criminalize it means that the main tool the state had to keep people from getting drunk is to nag them.

Now both the addictive properties and the adverse health effects of all recreational drugs, though real, are somewhat exaggerated (with tragic consequences for addition, there is some evidence that addicts find the prospect of quitting more daunting than they really should). But probably more than most with alcohol, because scaring people about the health effects is an one of the main things the government can do to keep people from getting drunk all the time. Hence the new campaign that a combination of binge drinking -essentially getting drunk- mixed in with periods of abstinence is much worse for your long-term health than a steady ration of three drinks per day, every day, condumed around dinnertime, even if the weekly total turns out to be much the same.

That said, there is a real psychological and psychiological high in abstaining for a lengthy period. It doesn't, alas, make you more intelligent or less personally nasty.

I also prefer going to an actual location and buying a book, mainly because you can get a better sense of the book by flipping through the pages first. I also actually being around people sometimes. With a limited budget and limited space in my apartment, I have to be careful about what I buy.

The online retailers were actually pretty useful during a stint in the military where I didn't have access to a bookstore at all. I could see bookstores disappearing from rural and suburban America, except for a few college towns, but still being present in cities. The insane rents in New York City, that are slowing choking off all retail activity there, are a completely separate matter.

Good point about the tax advantage that used to exist with online purchases. I've had people try to convince me to stop patronizing bricks and mortar stores and buy everything online "because it is cheaper". I think this is an artifact of differing tax treatment, that amounted to a subsidy for the online retailers, and that advantage is going away. Stores will turn out to be better, except in places where there are no stores for other reasons.

Barnes & Noble has been one of the better chains, they have a good selection, usually have a knowledgable staff, and seem to understand that their locations should be different from each other and pleasant for people to be in.

So Paris is now saying the purse that the drugs were found in was not hers, but everything else in the purse was, some things had her name on it…of coarse the drugs must have been left in there by the previous owner.
For some reason I think that someone that uses cocaine would not forget to remove it from a purse they were lending to another.

I don’t remember any of my girlfriends lending out their purse to their friends…or them borrowing one…is this common, or are these the words of the Hilton attorneys?

Nothing will change until we change the way campaigns are financed. If you ask me they are both partys of the corporate interest, pretending to be arguing for our best interests…Just a few weeks ago 23 Dem’s voted to give BP tens of millions of $$ in government aid… Like they need it! Now we know who will really be paying for their blunder in the Gulf.
The rich cry “NO social programs!” unless it is to cover their losses, like the banks.

They believe in capitalism when they make a profit, and socialism when they fail…and both party’s support this, as long as they get a kick-back.

I say vote out the encumbent, especially the career politicians who have been there for 20 years…they are the reason we are in this mess. One doesn’t have to change parties if they feel they hate the other one, do it in the primary’s!

This is completely wrong.

The "Build, build, build!" crowd completely misunderstand NIMBYism and the historical preservationists. When a new building is built, there isn't so much opposition because people are in love with the past or don't want their neighborhoods to change. New buildings run into opposition because most buildings built since World War II are ugly, and are often poorly constructed.

They tore down a historic hotel to build the Empire State Building, just like they are going to tear down a historic hotel to build this building. The difference is that the ESB is itself a beautiful building, and a worthy replacement to the hotel. The proposed building is simply ugly. I would oppose it if it were the only skyscraper in Manhattan.

The Empire State Building issue is a red herring. The proposed Penn Tower shouldn't be built anywhere. The original proposal for the badly named Freedom Towers also indicated it would be ugly, though the revised version is alot better. Still, it would have been a big improvement to build the other proposed buildings for the site and give the Freedom Tower a miss.

This is completely wrong.

The “Build, build, build!” crowd completely misunderstand NIMBYism and the historical preservationists. When a new building is built, there isn’t so much opposition because people are in love with the past or don’t want their neighborhoods to change.

"her own recognizance"= WTF ! Anyone else would have had to put up a $1000 bond.
I really don't understand how anyone would admire a person like her whos wealth has come from the poor wages paid to the employees of their over priced, rent a bed coporation.
Most the people who actually keep the day to day operations going are paid minimum wage.

This is why we have no economy, thousands of the Hilton employees can barely pay rent and buy food so a couple of rich bitches can splurge themselves on luxuries made by their rich friends who pay their employees barely enough to live on….that’s the story the press should cover but instead we will get six months of party girl Paris Hilton with a runny nose showing her canyon box all around town.

I agree that she should do some kind of community service, but she won’t. In a fair world she should have to wear a red vest and pick up trash along the highway for six or seven months.

i dont think a national coming out day is necessary. its nobodys business. its actually perverted to announce your sexual perclivity. saying im gay brings to mind certin sexual acts. its like announcing that you like to jerk off with your left hand. or that you like to sit on your hands thus making them numb and then jerk off. it has no place ina public forum. in certinly has no place in a political one. i think the gays r way off track with all these announcements. man , its so fuckin stupid. i came across this in an italian newspaper. they showed an old picture with this gay guy and bush. it makes us look rediculous.
its nobodys business. shut the fuck up ! youse fuckin faggots!
again i dont care of youse fuck each other in your asses, just keep it to yourself. have some class.
i didnt think that there was anything wrong with gay people, but now because of thses announcements im starting to think there is.
maby this is exibitionism not homosexuality.
they guy is standing at a podium telling us what he does with his ass. this is not a gay act in itself , but it is an exibitionist act.
fuckin sick bastard, and fuckin sick media for reporting it.
the media must think we r idiots.
maby most of us are.
so in summing up. gay is ok. exibitionism is wrong.
